Tuesday Tips – 5 Ways to Colour Your Kitchen!

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to the RT blog! We hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend & are ready for some creative inspiration. Today we wanted to give you some tips on how to bring more colour into your home, specifically your kitchen space!

Kitchens in rental properties or pre-built homes are often absent of bold colour or adventurous design. You’ll normally find kitchens are a mix of black, white, brown, cream & grey, as many property developers & landlords want to appeal to the mass market. If you’re anything like us in the studio, that boring palette just isn’t enough – we want to feel inspired in our homes, especially when taking on creative activities like cooking & baking! Not only that, we think it’s important that the kitchen be an inviting space where we can entertain guests & spend time with family.

So, if you’re in a rental property that you’re not allowed to alter, or have a home & just don’t have the budget to do any major changes, today we want to help you find alternative ways to bring colour to the kitchen. These are inexpensive & easy to achieve & remember that you can customise them any way you like!

Tile Stickers, Stick-on Wallpaper & Transfers

While tiles are frequently found in kitchens & can add a lot to the space, they can often be dated in rentals, or lack personality in new builds. The same goes for older wallpaper or even plain, magnolia walls, so adding some temporary, stick-on tiles, wallpaper, or decals can really work wonders for your space! Below are some examples to get you inspired, & some etsy links on where to buy!

Bright, Eye-Line Textiles

Adding some bright & bold tablecloths, place mats, curtains & smaller items like tea towels & oven mitts can really bring some personality & colour to your kitchen. It’s also a great way to hide or spruce up any unsightly furniture that may come with your rental or might be a bit old & damaged. Rachael loves to add colour to her home with her own designer range – why not try doing the same & designing or making your own textiles? Here’s a little inspo:

Fresh Flowers, Plants & Fruit

Flowers & plants are always a wonderful way to add colour & life to your home. Long-lasting floral choices like Carnations, which can be found in a local supermarket for around £3, come in all sorts of colours & in bountiful amounts, so it’s easy to pop a few bundles all over your kitchen & dining area. Cactuses are a great option for those who like low-maintenance plants that are cheap to buy & maintain! Similarly, bowls of fruit can be customised with all sorts of colours, depending on what you like to eat.

Floor-Level Textiles

Rugs are a fabulous way to bring some life into a room, no matter how big or small. Coming in tons of colours, patterns & styles, the options with rugs really are endless. While rugs can be a bit on the expensive side, there are plenty of options from places like Ikea that offer stylish & affordable alternatives to big brands! Bright Books, Ceramics & Utensils

A vibrant stack or shelf of books works fabulously as a way of adding accent colour – the same goes for lovely bright ceramics like vases, bowls & bottles! You can also add some colourful utensils or containers to display on your worktops to help bring it all together. The options really are endless & really quite easy!
