Interiors Roundup – Minimalist Marble!

Welcome back to another Interiors Roundup on the Rachael Taylor blog!

Today we’re exploring marble (or faux marble), one of the biggest interior & stationery trends hitting shelves, blogs, magazines & social media this year. More than ever before, this swirly, freeform pattern is popping up everywhere – from our phone cases to our sofa cushions, there’s no denying that this trend is one to remember in 2016.

So why is faux marbling, a design trend particularly popular in the 80s & early 90s, making such a huge comeback this year? We think its sudden rise in popularity is because of how well it compliments other interior trends from 2015 & 2016: last year we saw a huge rise in minimalism / scandi / geometric trends with lots of solid block colours & straight lines. As marble is the opposate of geometric, it’s easy to see how a hint of swirly texture here and there can break up a boxy feeling space while adding personality & more colour.

Marble prints also pair really well with metallics, which are hugely popular right now – more & more we are seeing marble furniture, accessories & stationery matched with rose gold or copper trim, creating a chic, sophisticated look that we cant get enough of. Marble has also seemingly exploded following Pantone’s Colour of the Year announcement, where they deemed Rose Quartz & Serenity (essentially a pastel rose & lilac) as this year’s most on-trend colours. It’s no surprise that we’ve seen faux marbling paired with these dusty swatches time & time again.
