The competition will focus on the production of repeating patterns for use in fashion and interior décor settings. With a long history of print production, Roland DG has taken their expertise into the production of textile fabrics with the launch of the Texart XT-640 professional dye-sublimation transfer printer, taking the Roland DG textile line up to the next level. The XT Competition is designed to educate the next generation of graphic and fashion designers on dye-sublimation transfer techniques which can be used to take their work from design to production. Attendees will be invited to produce a repeating pattern that will then be brought to life on the Texart XT-640, and sewn into a fashion dress to be displayed at Roland DG trade shows as well as Creative Centres across Europe. The fashion dress will be manufactured and produced by R A Smart who have long turned Rachael Taylor’s creativity into reality. Along with being a Roland DG Authorised Dealer for the Texart range of textile products, R A Smart have worked closely with many educational establishments. The final design will be distributed to Roland DG’s various European Creative Centres in the UK, Spain, Belgium, Denmark and Italy in addition to the lucky winner. World-famous surface pattern designer and illustrator Rachael Taylor, co-founder of Make it in Design, will be judging the winning pattern, and has advised that “What makes a striking and winning design for me is an innovative approach that injects a unique style, personality, creative flair and confident use of colour”.
