New beginnings…

I’m such a summer person so I’ve been making time to get out into my garden & outdoor studio recently for some drawing sessions. I’ve been looking at some lovely floral photographic inspo (I always ask permission before using imagery) & doing my usual abstract thing. I’ve ben using my favourite pens from Uniball along with my Pink Pig sketchbooks.

When I clear space for drawing days sometimes I can spend a good few hours, or the best part of a day, on just one drawing. In other cases I’m just creating a wide selection of motifs in the same time period or filling a sketchbook full of textures & mark making. It honestly depends on what the drawing is for & the vibe I’m after but my creative work is mostly affected by what mood I’m in. Oh & the music I’m listening too! The choice of subject matter is also really important. I looked at a Hollyhock plant as inspiration for one of these drawings, however I tend to only ever use reference as a starting point then I purposely abstract things & just draw spontaneously. Perhaps I’ve just created a new flower species!? Maybe that’s where all this is going!

I’m really looking forward to turning these motifs into pattern designs at some point. I’m always so grateful for garden studio time.

If you’re feeling a little uninspired or stuck then I’d love to help! I’m offering individual, one-to-one Creative Coaching sessions throughout August & September. I just really want to help others on their creative journeys & careers & help guide them through. You can find out more about the sessions in the brochure.
