The power behind a single drawing

With the return of my Magical Motif Creation online workshop with the Sketchbook Revival Binge Fest beginning May 27th, it’s got me thinking about something I’ve always wanted to impart the importance of to my students & coaching clients. The power of a single drawing or motif.

Many of my most popular designs have been born from just a single motif. You can see just a few examples below. One design was so in demand it was copied by a big high street retailer!

As you can see it’s a total myth that all designs need to be super intricate & detailed to be successful. Sometimes is simple best. Sometimes less is more. It’s the dynamic composition, choice of colour & the mood you want to create with your design that will elevate it from a single motif to an eye-catching piece of art. In the examples below you can see I have used various scales, added extra layers, flipped or rotated the motifs & played around with angles.
