While we wait for the rest, we have curated part 1 of the colours that have already been chosen this year. Connect with us on Substack for subsequent parts, including the most anticipated Colour of The Year from Pantone, which is typically shared in November! Find out the decisions behind these colour trends below & how we think you can use them in your artwork. WGSN x Coloro: Luminous Blue HEX: 193f8f | RGB: 25 63 143 | CMYK: 100 88 11 1 WGSN typically predict their colours two years ahead, so Luminous Blue was picked back in 2025. “We’re delighted to reveal our Colour of the Year for 2027, Luminous Blue. With a dynamic quality, it’s both mysterious and eccentric, with versatility and a broad appeal that will resonate from occasionwear to activewear. WGSN’s market-leading forecasts provide the world’s most valuable brands with insights of 93% accuracy.” – Clare Smith (she/her), Senior Colour Strategist for WGSN This is a bold colour choice compared to many of the paint brands & is seen as a gender neutral hue that works across multiple seasons. We think it would work well as part of a bold, abstract collection & for tech inspired graphic design. We could also see the colour being taken back to its roots of traditional dying techniques, using methods such as Batik & Shibori for motif inspiration. Dulux: Soulful Sage™ HEX: a3a794 | RGB: 163 167 148 | CMYK: 39 27 43 1p For 2027, Dulux have chosen Soulful Sage™ “a soft, radiant green that can make you and your home feel brighter.” This shade was chosen by Dulux for its mood boosting, healing & soothing properties, something they feel is much needed in our homes to get away from the burdens of day to day life. We can imagine this colour being a dominant choice in botanical themed artwork, focusing on motifs like soft sage & eucalyptus, shadowy silhouettes & natural textures. Little Greene: Marle HEX: 938168 | RGB: 147 129 104 | CMYK: 41 44 60 10 At Little Greene that have decided on Marle for their 2027 colour of the year as part of their refreshed ‘Colour Scales’ colour cards. These cards were updated to “reflect the changing way we use colour” & incorporate “shades that span over 300 years of interior design.” Marle was chosen for its comforting warmth, & its ability to create a luxurious yet soothing environment. We have seen such a comeback for shades of brown this year already so we have no doubt it will be a key colour still moving into 2027. We can see this colour being used in painterly & textured artworks with organic & abstract themes, leaning into the cosy & warm feeling the shade evokes. Graham & Brown: Rose Earth HEX: ad8a74 | RGB: 173 138 116 | CMYK: 32 44 54 4 Graham & Brown’s Colour of The Year for 2027 is Rose Earth. What we love about Graham & Brown’s choice each year is that they also pick a Design of The Year (Roselle Grove “which captures the whimsy of Indian chintz with elevated English flair”) & a Mural of The Year (Red Rose County Day). Rose Earth “draws on natural mineral pigments from Italian clay, reflecting the timeless depth and reliability of earthy tones, thoughtfully reimagined for today’s homes.” It was chosen to reflect what Graham & Brown have seen as rising desire for peoples homes to feel “reassuring, expressive and deeply connected to the natural world.” Graham & Brown have provided so much motif inspiration for your artwork already with their announcement, & we suggest leaning into the dominant rose motif & it’s Indian chintz roots.p Valspar: Cottage Door HEX: 7a8f96 | RGB: 122 143 150 | CMYK: 56 36 35 2 For 2027 Valspar have chosen Cottage Door “a color that welcomes you home.” This grey-blue shade was chosen for its warm & inviting undertones, & ability to create a mood of reflection & escape. Valspar say they have recognised a “cultural shift toward intentional living and self-reflection calls for authentic and heartfelt hues.” This shade is all about soft minimalism, embracing “the raw beauty of materials in their most natural state.” We think this colour could work well as part of a more sophisticated nautical themed collection or as part of series of mindful artworks with encouraging yet gentle affirmations. Dutch Boy Paints: Deep Rooted HEX: a6613c | RGB: 166 97 60 | CMYK: 27 66 83 15 Dutch Boy for 2027 have chosen Deep Rooted. “An earthy orange that helps you create a home that feels inviting, personal, and alive with natural color.” Chosen for its grounding & calming feel, Dutch Boy’s choice comes from seeing a trend in people seeking more stability & authentic connection in their homes. We love the choice of pairing this shade with vibrant yellow & deep blue to create a balanced, calm, yet fun palette. We think this shade would work well used in contemporary geometric patterns. Clark+Kensington: Vantage Point HEX: 9eafc6 | RGB: 158 175 198 | CMYK: 38 24 12 0 Clark+Kensington’s 2027 Colour of the Year is Vantage Point. “With depth and a quiet luminosity, Vantage Point radiates positivity. Make it the focal point with simple styling in natural materials.” The decision behind this shade was based on homeowners “looking for more moments of connection at home”, & as a result of this they have chosen a colour that is timeless & familiar, sophisticated & versatile. It very much brings to mind a sky on a clear day. Having looked through the colour moods Clark+Kensington have also identified, we can imagine this colour used in artwork exploring coastlines, horizons, sun rises & sun sets. Glidden: Artifact HEX: 68818c | RGB: 104 129 140 | CMYK: 63 41 37 5 Glidden have chosen Artifact for 2027, “a calm, fresh aqua that feels like a reset for your whole space. No renovation chaos needed.” The team behind this choice have described the shade as a warm rich blue that is “energising like water”& “restorative like the greens we find in nature.” Their decision was based on homeowners & renters need for a liveable, neutral, yet customisable shade. Taking inspiration from the styling for this shade, we think it would work in sophisticated botanical artworks, using the smokiness of the colour to create more of a dreamy atmosphere. Sherwin-Williams: Celery HEX: e0ddbd | RGB: 224 221 189 | CMYK: 12 8 28 0 For 2027 Sherwin-Williams have chosen Celery “an airy, herbal green that embodies fresh perspectives and elegance.” This nature-inspired green was chosen for growing trends in homeowners wanting to focus on shades that promote wellness, self expression & balance in their homes. We would recommend leaning into the idea of creating artworks that help you feel restorative & at your best, focusing on organic, botanical & even food & drink themes. Behr: Grounded HEX: 565344 | RGB: 86 83 68 | CMYK: 59 53 68 37 Brand Behr has chosen Grounded for 2027, a “mossy olive with earthy brown undertones, Grounded transforms everyday spaces into personal sanctuaries.” Continuing with the trend of people wanting to feel more rooted & connected in their homes, Grounded was chosen for its “natural sense of balance” & “cocoon-like feel”. We can see this shade used for natural & woodland themed artworks, perhaps even introducing land animals & creatures to really lean into its grounded nature. Benjamin Moore: Webster Green HEX: 64806c | RGB: 100 128 108 | CMYK: 63 35 60 12 Benjamin Moore’s choice for Colour of The Year 2027 is Webster Green, “the quintessential shade of green” & “beautifully balances the stability of blue and the warmth of yellow”. They explain that their decision was backed by a need for a shade of green that felt fresh for today’s world yet timeless. When deciding they felt that choosing a green would be the best choice for it’s constant presence in interior design & trends, & it has the ability to adapt to the times. We think for your artwork, leaning into the idea of timeless design would be a great starting point. Think of design styles, genres & eras that have stood the test of time & work just as well today as they did when first imagined. C2 Paint: Pueblo HEX: 937481 | RGB: 147 116 129 | CMYK: 40 38 35 5 For C2 Paint have announced Pueblo as their Colour of The Year, “a complex, earthy mauve that shifts beautifully with the light”. C2 based their decision on finding out “what comes after several years of seeking calm, comfort and retreat.”They explain that their research has seen that people want to re-engage with the things that excite them & there is a renaissance of wanting to reconnect with the physical. We love the berry-like quality of this shade & think fauna that grows berries of all kinds & shapes would be interesting to explore. Dunn-Edwards: French Press Coffee HEX: 4c4548 | RGB: 76 69 72 | CMYK: 63 64 56 42 The Dunn-Edwards 2027 Colour of the Year is French Press Coffee, “a deep, nuanced brown softened by a subtle plum undertone that embodies the rich character of roasted coffee and the enduring appeal of lived-in luxury.” The decision behind the shade comes from extensive research & finding that a fast-paced, digital world is driving a need for more comfort outside of technology. For things that are more human, tactile & natural. It may be obvious to encourage you to explore the coffee motif in your art, but perhaps there is something in tracking the life cycle of a coffee bean or taking it in a more abstract direction that could be interesting. Mylands: Huguenot HEX: 713e43 | RGB: 113 62 67 | CMYK: 42 76 60 38p Mylands have presented Huguenot as their 2027 Colour of The Year, a “deep crimson red with subtle blue undertones”. Mylands explains that it was chosen after looking for a colour that felt deeply personal, could create character in a room & feel warm & reassuring. Dark Academia is trend that has been significantly growing the last few years, pushed by the book genre of the same name. In your artwork think of old libraries, dusty tomes, brass decorations & flickering candlelight. Johnstones: Country Soil HEX: 938272 | RGB: 147 130 114 | CMYK: 42 44 53 8 To wrap up todays’s part we have Country Soil as the Colour of The Year 2027 from Johnstones. This is “a warm, saturated neutral that blends beige, taupe and grey with rich earthy undertones.” Similarly to other brands they have identified a consumer need for getting away from the fast-paced & digitally controlled & to look for more spaces that have connection, ground us, provide comfort & promote wellness. pWe think this a great shade to start exploring textures with in your artwork. Think tree bark, leaf impressions, & grittiness from soil & sand.
